Shake Your Story Course

Turn the story you can’t shake into proof that life is on your side.

Not because what happened was fine. Because the one thing you wish had never happened may be the very thing that wakes you up. A short, self-paced course in questioning your thinking.

How To Find Your Way Out of A Story You Can’t Shake — a 10-lesson self-inquiry course with Grace Bell

Follow the 4-question process to dissolve your suffering — without forgiving, pretending, cutting anyone off, or demanding that anyone change. Including you.

Instant, lifetime access · 10 lessons · self-paced · $44

The four questions will help you:

  • Find the painful belief underneath the hurt, fear, or anger — instead of circling the whole story for another year.
  • Stop rehearsing the argument in your head, so you get your peace, your confidence (and your 2am) back.
  • Meet a painful thought without being pulled under by it — no bracing, no suppressing, no trying to be the bigger person.
  • Discover that what happened may have been for you, not against you — and finally feel that life is on your side.

Who it’s for:

This is for people who read, reflect, meditate, or pray — who’ve already done real inner work and are still stuck on a story. Especially:

  • Anyone replaying something a parent said or did — including a parent who’s been gone for years.
  • The one who was left, cheated on, or lied to — and has understood why many times over without it helping.
  • Parents of adult children who pull away, go quiet, or choose the other side of the family.
  • Anyone still carrying a friendship or family rift that ended without a real ending.
  • People who’ve tried The Work before, got a taste of relief, and never took one story all the way through.
  • Anyone who is tired of “processing” and wants to actually put the thing down.

If you’re not sure whether your story counts — it counts.

I’d done years of therapy. I understood my family, my patterns, my attachment style. I could explain everyone’s behavior, including my own.

Then in March 2005, I came home from my first School for The Work of Byron Katie, and in our first conversation my husband told me he no longer wanted to be married.

All the understanding in the world didn’t help. What helped was taking the simplest sentence — he left me — and looking at what it meant.

I discovered a very painful meaning underneath that sentence: I am worthy of being left.

I’d never said it out loud. I didn’t realize I’d been assuming it might be true for years.

I questioned this assumption — not the divorce, not him, not the situation. And it turned out not to be as solid as it looked.

What I found on the other side wasn’t just relief. It was the beginning of the life I have now, one I couldn’t have planned and wouldn’t trade.

Inside this course, I’ll show you how to find one sentence you’ve thought about your situation — and what to do with it.

I was so sure I was right about my perceptions, about her — two decades of entrenched thinking. By questioning these thoughts I had the thought, ‘What exactly was the problem?’ It’s dissolving. As I do these worksheets, I cease to be at war.

I decided I really needed The Work to help me own what’s going on inside me, instead of getting triggered by my sister or my husband and blaming them, thinking if they changed everything would be OK. How I feel toward my husband has changed significantly.

I’ve carried some resentment toward my older sister. Now I don’t feel the need to be what I think she wants me to be. I feel so much love for her. I feel like a different person in my family.

What you get:

  • Ten short video lessons — one sentence, all the way through. From finding the thought underneath your story, through all four questions and the turnarounds, to what happens after. Self-paced. Watch one a day or all in a weekend.
  • The four questions, done on a real story — mine. You watch me take he left me through each question, so you see what “is it true?” actually does before you try it on your own sentence. No theory to interpret. You just follow.
  • The two worksheets, to download and keep. The Judge-Your-Neighbor and One-Belief-at-a-Time worksheets Byron Katie created — the same tools used in every program I teach. This course shows you how to find one sentence; the worksheets are how you find the next one, and the one after that.
  • Lesson 10: If the Story Comes Back. Because it could. This lesson is the difference between a good week and a practice — what to do the next time the thought shows up out of the blue.

Lifetime access. Come back with the next story.

Many of my beliefs were formed at an early age. I was surprised, relieved, and humbled to come away from The Work with such dramatically changed perspectives, clarity, internal strength — and peace.

I am now solidly aware that no one can make me anything, and I don’t cause their world to turn either. I am uncovering a friendly universe”.

They say time heals all wounds.

But you’ve had time. Years of it. And the thing still lands in your chest when their name comes up, or when you drive past the house, or when you run into someone that reminds you of the past.

That’s not because you haven’t healed enough. It’s because the wound was never in time. It’s in a sentence — one you’ve been believing so long it stopped looking like a belief and started looking like the truth.

She never loved me. He should have protected me. I’m worthy of being left.

Time can’t touch a sentence. Neither can forgiving, understanding, or being the bigger person — you’ve tried all three. You can’t out-argue a belief. The more you push against it, the more the mind defends it.

What you can do is question it. Four questions, asked honestly, about one sentence. Not to make what happened okay. To find out whether what you decided it means is actually true.

Nobody tells you this because it sounds too simple. It isn’t so easy though. But it is the thing that works — and it’s the whole of what this course teaches.

A woman came to one of my retreats still furious at her father. He’d been dead for eleven years.

By the end of the weekend, something in her had visibly settled. Not because she’d forgiven him — she hadn’t decided to do anything of the kind. Why?

Because she stopped arguing with the man and started questioning the sentence: he abandoned me and destroyed our family. She’d been believing it since she was nine. When she looked at it directly, for the first time, it wasn’t as solid as it had looked. And the verdict she’d been carrying about herself inside it — that one loosened too.

Nothing about the past changed. Everything about carrying it did.

Inside How To Find Your Way Out of A Story You Can’t Shake, I’ll show you exactly how — one sentence, four questions, start to finish.

A note from Grace

I’ll be honest — I’m a therapist, and traditional therapy didn’t get me out of my stories.

It helped. Especially group therapy I was lucky to get into in my twenties.

I understood my family, my patterns, the whole architecture of why people behaved as they did, including myself. And I was still lying awake replaying conversations with my dad, my sister, my first husband — assuming what each one meant about me.

In 2005 I went to my first School for The Work of Byron Katie. Four questions. It sounded too simple to work on anything real. Then I came home, my husband left, and I found out it worked on the realest thing I had.

I’ve been facilitating The Work since then — twenty years, thousands of people, in retreats, in a ten-month program called Year of Inquiry, and in my program Eating Peace.

I’m a certified counselor with a master’s in Applied Behavioral Science, and the truth is that the four questions have done more for the people I sit with than anything I learned in graduate school.

I made this course because people kept asking for where to begin. One story, start to finish, at their own pace, for the price of a good dinner.

That’s what How To Find Your Way Out of A Story You Can’t Shake is. The basics you need to know about questioning one painful thought, in ten short lessons.

After all these years The Work seems to be embedded in me. I can do a worksheet in my head and find peace and compassion for myself and others”.

If you’ve understood it, forgiven it, meditated on it, and talked about it for years — and it still hurts — the problem was never you. It was the sentence.
